Kaupo residents ask questions during Sunday's meeting at Kaupo School on the county's $1.5 million project to shore up a cliffside following a rockfall at Alelele Point in late April that forced Hana Highway to close between Alelele and Lelekea bridges on May 10. The county said more than 100 people attended meetings in East Maui over the weekend to discuss the project, which is expected to take about three weeks as a contractor removes 1,500 tons of rock debris. Construction crews will be operating from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Full rock-scaling to remove loose or unstable material will start next week, and temporary netting will be used to secure loosened rocks to protect telephone lines and the roadway below, the county said. Kaupo residents who have not been able to receive mail from Hana Post Office are asked to fill out a mail forwarding form that will redirect mail to Kula Post Office.
